The benefits of glass mineral wool

Our glass mineral wool insulation is manufactured from up to 73% recycled glass. This is combined with other raw materials, then melted in a furnace. The molten glass is spun into millions of fine fibres, which are then formed into a mat with the fibres bonded with resin binder. This mat is ‘cured’ in an oven, cut to size, and packaged.

The resulting glass mineral wool insulation meets the increasing demand of thermal, fire, acoustic and environmental performance in the built environment.

Thermal Insulation

Glass mineral wool insulates by trapping and holding air within its fibres, keeping buildings warmer in winter and cooler in summer. The greater the temperature difference between the inside and outside of a building, the faster it will lose heat in winter and gain heat in summer. Glass mineral wool insulation helps maintain a stable internal temperature by reducing heat transfer through convection, conduction and radiation.

Environmental Performance

Glass mineral wool is not only manufactured from up to 73% recycled glass, it is also fully recyclable at the end of its working life. In addition, URSA insulation is highly compressible, reducing packaging needs and enabling more product per delivery, to cut transport miles.

Fire Classification

All URSA insulation products are deemed non-combustible with a fire classification of Euroclass A1 (the highest possible rating) when tested to EN 13501-1:2018 Reaction to Fire.

Acoustic Insulation

The glass mineral wool fibres absorb and dampen sound waves, which helps reduce sound transmission through walls, floors and ceilings and creates a more comfortable internal environment for building occupants.
